A STRANGER THEY WILL NOT FOLLOW.

It is always hard to know the voice of a stranger, you can’t identify with it because the person is a stranger. It’s not because you choose not to, but is all because the person is simply a stranger. Even from childhood, parents have taught their kids not to follow a stranger, telling them that it is bad to follow a stranger or take anything from a stranger. The fear of following a stranger is always there in that tender age, so when you try to come close, they will not follow you, because their parent said  they should not follow a stranger. That’s why is very easy to train up a child than the matured. They are swift to obedience, and this they bear up for a life time. No wonder the word of God says.

Proverbs  22:6 Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.

The child surely will not depart. That’s why we must not lose that ability to learn like a child and to obey God.

John  10:1 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that entereth not by the door into the sheepfold, but climbeth up some other way, the same is a thief and a robber.

10:2 But he that entereth in by the door is the shepherd of the sheep.

10:3 To him the porter openeth; and the sheep hear his voice: and he calleth his own sheep by name, and leadeth them out.
10:4 And when he putteth forth his own sheep, he goeth before them, and the sheep follow him: for they know his voice.

10:5 And a stranger will they not follow, but will flee from him: for they know not the voice of strangers.

One key thing here is, sheep knows the voice of their Shepherd. Take for example when you buy a dog, you get to know the dog, by giving the dog food regularly, that begin to register in his mind, that this is the person that normally comes around to give me food, then you also introduce the dog to everyone at home, they give the dog food, play with the dog and then it get acquainted with the people at home. If you give the dog some good training, it will respond to when to get back to the cage, when to stop a bad habit and all that. But one day when a stranger that is not in the house or familiar with the dog comes, the dog will surely bark the person, the response of that barking means I don’t know you, and then people in the house comes out to tell the dog to keep quiet and go inside the cage. So it is, when a stranger come to us as the people of God, we should never be able to identify with the stranger. The Shepherd Himself is the Lord. We know His voice because we are His sheep, it’s a normal thing to know His voice, so that when strangers comes, we will not follow the stranger in our lives. The voice know there means they have a fellowship with the Shepherd voice. In fact, when you come home some times and your dog hear your voice or the sound of your car, it will begin to make some noise, and then come close to dance with it tail and jump at you, then you respond by rubbing the dog’s head. So also when the Shepherd is coming to the fold as the passage said, as He opens the door and they hear His voice they rejoice. The Shepherd knows them by name. Take for example again, you now have many dogs, you don’t give them the  same names but different names, so when you say “Jack come!”  it will come and then you call the other. So also God knows us by name and as He calls us we respond to Him.

HE LEADETH THEM OUT

John  10:3 To him the porter openeth; and the sheep hear his voice: and he calleth his own sheep by name, AND LEADETH THEM OUT.

That’s the function of a Shepherd. No wonder David said.

Psalms  23:1 THE LORD IS MY SHEPHERD; I shall not want.

23:2 He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: HE LEADETH ME beside the still waters.

The function of Shepherd is to lead. Are you called to the ministry? Your function is to lead your sheep. Our function as leaders is to lead people out. Majorly the work of the sheep is not to stay indoor or else they are not functioning as they ought to, they are to go out with their Shepherd. This is not to go out to go and help fun but to do what the Shepherd said to do or do what the Shepherd is doing.

HE PUT FORTH HIS OWN SHEEP AND GO BEFORE THEM.

When he takes them out or lead them out. He Himself takes the lead. Leaders are not always behind. They are always at the forefront. I just hope I won’t write again on leadership as am been tempted right now. But that’s how it is. The Shepherd takes the lead, he leads them out and stays in the front. Many times this is  not because He is the leader but because He has someone He is following also.

John  5:17  But Jesus answered them, My Father worketh hitherto, and I work.

John  5:19  Then answered Jesus and said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, The Son can do nothing of himself, but WHAT HE SEETH THE FATHER DO: FOR WHAT THINGS SOEVER HE DOETH, THESE ALSO DOETH THE SON LIKEWISE.

1 Corinthians  11:1  Be ye followers of me, even as I ALSO AM OF CHRIST.

These are words to be considered. Many times leaders take the first position so that others follow them, without knowing the essence. The reason is you have someone you are following, which must always be Christ. Paul said follow me as long as you see me following Christ. So you can go back if I no longer follow Christ. Our role as Shepherd should be to lead them to the Chief Shepherd. The Shepherd takes the lead.

THEY FLEE FROM STRANGERS.

John  10:5 And a stranger will they not follow, but WILL FLEE FROM HIM: for they know not the voice of strangers.

When God speaks to us, we must not flee, He shouldn’t be a stranger to us, which I believe He is not. We are to flee from strangers but always run to God. The stranger I believe are those things that are not of God, even the devil himself. We should not know his voice. He is a stranger to us. We must flee from him. He will also flee from us when we submit to God, because when he see our submission and how we follow the voice of the Lord in submission.

James  4:7  Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.

JESUS IS THE DOOR OF THE SHEEP.

John  10:7 Then said Jesus unto them again, Verily, verily, I say unto you, I AM THE DOOR OF THE SHEEP.

10:8 All that ever came before me are thieves and robbers: but the sheep did not hear them.

10:9 I am the door: by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved, and shall go in and out, and find pasture.

He is the door of the sheep. The people that came before Him, that where not from Him He called them thieves and robbers. We will see later that the thief is the devil and mostly people sent from him, and Jesus said His sheep did not hear them.

THERE GO IN AND OUT IN HIM.

John  10:9 I am the DOOR: BY ME if any man ENTER IN, he shall be saved, and SHALL GO IN AND OUT, AND FIND PASTURE.

The word shall go in and out does not mean to backslide. What it means is that there are many entrances in Him. He said BY ME: You shall go in and out. So we must understand that it is by Him.

WHAT IS BY HIM?

First He is the way

John  14:6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but BY ME.

We must know again that access are in Him.

Ephesians  2:18 For THROUGH HIM we both HAVE ACCESS by one Spirit UNTO the Father.

Romans  5:2 BY WHOM ALSO WE HAVE ACCESS by faith into this grace wherein we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God.

Ephesians  3:12 IN WHOM we have BOLDNESS and ACCESS with confidence by the faith of him.

Hebrews  4:16 Let us therefore COME BOLDLY UNTO THE THRONE of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.

Hebrews  10:19 Having therefore, brethren, BOLDNESS TO ENTER into the holiest by the blood of Jesus,

10:20 BY A NEW AND LIVING WAY, which he hath consecrated for us, through the veil, that is to say, HIS FLESH;

This we do through Him and by Him, so that we can pasture. David said.

Psalms  23:2 He maketh me to lie down in GREEN PASTURES: he leadeth me beside the still waters.

Pasture talks about a large place where an animal feed on the grass. Now we are the sheep. What we feed on is the word of God.

Matthew  4:4  But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth OUT OF THE MOUTH OF GOD.

They go in and out to find pasture. To go after the word. It’s a large place where they go digging and feeding on the word. The meal of the sheep is the grass, that grass is the word of God, which we must keep and not decline from.

Job  23:11 My foot hath held his steps, his way have I kept, and not declined.

23:12 Neither have I gone back from the commandment of his lips; I have esteemed the words of his mouth more than my necessary food.

There are entrances in Christ Jesus. They are in and out, as you move from one stage you get to another stage, that’s the pasture. That’s growth. Growth comes by right feeding on the word. We go in and out, to find pasture in Him. That tells the pasture is in Him, that word said in Him. That pasture is not outside of Him. It’s in Him.

Acts  17:28  FOR IN HIM WE LIVE, AND MOVE, AND HAVE OUR BEING; as certain also of your own poets have said, For we are also his offspring.

So you see, it’s in Him. It’s in Him we go in and out to find pasture. He will never even let us alone to find it ourselves. His Spirit will also guide us even as we find pasture.

John  16:13  Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, HE WILL GUIDE YOU INTO ALL TRUTH: for he shall not speak of himself; but WHATSOEVER HE SHALL HEAR, THAT SHALL HE SPEAK: AND HE WILL SHEW YOU THINGS TO COME.

Romans  8:14 For as many as are LED by the Spirit of God, they are the SONS OF GOD.

You still notice the word led and guide, that’s what Shepherd do,  and then sheep obey the leading. You may say but it don’t say Jesus. Well, I tell you they are one. It reads the Spirit of God. Your spirit is still you. It’s not another person spirit. So they are one.

1 John  5:7  For there are three that bear record in heaven, the FATHER, THE WORD, and the HOLY GHOST: and THESE THREE ARE ONE.

NOBODY CAN PLUCK THE SHEEP OUT OF HIS HAND.

John  10:27 My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me:

10:28 And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand.

10:29 My Father, which gave them me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father’s hand.

10:30 I and my Father are one.

This is very important for us to know. He gives us eternal life, and not that He shall but immediately we are His sheep or come to His fold, He gives us eternal life. And He is the eternal life and He has been authorized to do give it.

John  5:26 For as the Father hath LIFE IN HIMSELF; SO HATH HE GIVEN TO THE SON toY HAVE LIFE IN HIMSELF;

5:27 AND HATH GIVEN him AUTHORITY to execute judgment also, because he is the Son of man.

John  17:2 As thou hast given him power over all flesh, that he should give eternal life to as many as thou hast given him.

17:3 And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent.

We must know that no man can pluck us out of His hand. We are in the Father’s hand and also in the Son hand and to be led by the Holy Ghost. We are kept by His name(I wrote an article with this title, you can read on the blog too). No man pluck us out of Their hands. This is full security. Sheep always need security and this is what we are been given. Don’t be afraid by praying that every pot they have hide my glory, break in Jesus name! Are you in Christ? Are you His sheep? Then see this as an additional that you’re in the Father’s hand.

Colossians  3:3 For ye are dead, and YOUR LIFE IS HID WITH CHRIST IN GOD.

You can’t separate this Godhead. They are one. No man can pluck us away from His hand, we are His sheep.

CONCLUSION
Can we today make bold to always follow the Lord and hate the voice of the stronger, and not follow him. The stranger is the devil.

John  10:10 The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.

He is the thief. We must not follow him, he is not part of the house.

Revelation  12:7 And there was war in heaven: Michael and his angels fought against the DRAGON; and the DRAGON FOUGHT AND HIS ANGELS,

12:8 And prevailed not; neither WAS THEIR PLACE FOUND ANY MORE IN HEAVEN.

Revelation  12:9  And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him.

These are the thieves that came before Him.

John  10:8 All that ever came before me are thieves and robbers: but the sheep did not hear them.

It was not referring to the prophets of old but it was the devil and his angels. Let’s not follow them. They are not part of the house. God bless you. Keep walking…
