Psalm 143:8 KJV
Cause me to hear thy lovingkindness in the morning; for in thee do I trust: cause me to know the way wherein I should walk; for I lift up my soul unto thee.
The life of man is summed up in his experiences in life. His experiences are formed from his five senses, but majorly from what he sees and hears. And what he sees and hears translates into what he knows and does. So, we can say knowledge is a product of one’s ability to see and hearing ability. And that’s why it becomes a little difficult to train on who cannot see or who seem to have hearing disability.
The Psalmist prays a very important prayer by saying, “cause me to hear of that loving-kindness in the morning….” Why is this important? What you hear informs what you believe and consequently how you live your life. The word “loving-kindness” is a compound word that shows us the exceeding measure of God’s love towards man that spurs Him to be exceedingly kind to us. It also shows how God’s goodness and kindness towards man is propelled by His love for man. God is so much in love with us that He was and is willing to give us all that He had and has. He started by giving us His only begotten son as a sacrifice unto Himself so as to reconcile us back to Himself. “For God SO LOVED the world, that He gave HIS ONLY BEGOTTEN SON,….” John 3:16. God wanted to demonstrate how much He loves and loved us, so He gave one thing that was paramount to Him so that you can have His life, “eternal Life.” We also understood by the scriptures that aside from His son that He gave us as sacrifice for our sins and trespasses, He also sealed us with His Spirit. He gave us His Spirit as a token/down payment/deposit/earnest of our inheritance until we are fully redeemed. Eph.1:13,14. Apart from all these, we also understood by the scriptures that if God could give us His only begotten son, how will He not give us all things freely as an addition to His son. Rom. 8:32.
All these was said to emphasise the prayers of David when He said, “cause me to hear of your loving-kindness even in the morning”. Many of us do not expose our ears to hearing this truth in God, hence we allow the devil torment us with vain words of condemnation or guilt of sin. Our faith is built by our ability to hear and our ability to hear is empowered by the word of God. Rom.10:17. So, open your ears to hear of God’s kindness propelled by God’s love. Some kindness are propelled by selfish desires or even outright wickedness but God’s kindness towards man is driven by His love for humanity.
By hearing of God’s loving-Kindness, our ability to trust Him is strengthened. Faith is built by the words you keep hearing. The more we expose ourselves to hearing about God, the more we can learn to trust Him, not just with our possessions but also with our lives. Without the knowledge of love, trust cannot be built. And if kindness is not propelled by love, the act of goodness cannot be trusted.
Secondly, the Psalmist prays to know the way of the Lord. “…cause me to know the way wherein I should walk…” That prayer is very important for all to pray. There are many ways that look like ways, unfortunately, they lead to destruction and death. In fact, the ways of man are always good in his own sight, and that’s Why we need to pray to God for help to know the way wherein we should walk. Jesus Christ said, “I am The Way, The Truth, and The Life….” John 14:6. Any journey is as easy as our knowledge of the way. How fast you walk and how confident you walk is dependent on your knowledge and understanding of the way. Many struggle with looking for the way that they never found it till it was late.
Proverbs admonishes us on what to do. “Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.” Proverbs 3:5-6.
We must learn to trust in the Lord with all our hearts. How can we learn to trust God without first exposing our hearts to hearing of His loving-kindness? And as we trust Him, we must not lean on our own intuition (understanding). Then we must learn to seek His mind and counsel in all our ways such that He can direct our paths. He knows the way much more than we know it. So, commit all to His care. Let His word be a lamp unto your feet and a light unto your path.
The essence of knowing His way is such that you can lift your soul towards Him. What’s our soul lifted up to? The way you know determines how your soul will be lifted. Many souls are lifted up in pride because the way of the proud they know. When what you have a product of your efforts, then your soul will be lifted accordingly. Many souls are lifted up to vanity because the way of vanity they’ve learnt and sought all their lives. If you know the way of the Lord, your soul will be lifted to God. That explains why Moses’ soul was constantly lifted up to God because Moses knew the ways of the Lord but the children of Israel knew God’s acts and their soul was lifted to the acts. So, when they see the acts, they rejoice but when they see nothing, they become sad and they will murmur against God.
Our knowledge and understanding of God’s way will help us to live a balance life that is filled with Joy, Peace, Love, Happiness, Patience, Glory and lots more.
In conclusion, expose your ears to hearing God’s loving-kindness as this will help to strengthen your trust in God and also learn to know His way such that you can walk thereby, and this will help you to lift up your soul to Him alone. Have a blessed day. GOD BLESS YOU.
