There are two tools God has or is willing to give to us to lead us, they are His Light and His Truth. We need to ask Him to shine on us His Light and to guide us about with His truth. Let me share with you these two scriptures as we go through today’s devotional.
Psalm 43:3 “O send out thy light and thy truth: let them lead me; let them bring me unto thy holy hill, and to thy tabernacles.”
John 17:17 “Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.”
In our daily activities, we need the tutelage and guidance of God as we interact with our world. Though we live in this world, we are not of this world and that should always reflect in all that we do. It is therefore necessary that we get instructions from ‘our own world’ which is The Kingdom. We are ambassadors in this world, hence it is instructive for us to always get instructions from our home country where we represent.
Man was created to live by instructions. Man was designed to obey certain instructions whether he knows about them or not. Hence, man can either be instructed by the prince of the power of the air to walk according to the course of this world or
instructed by God to walk according to the leadings of the Spirit. When the prince of the power of the air, satan instructs us, then we will fulfil his biddings and that makes us the children of Satan and invariably the children of perdition. If we allow God instruct us, then are we the children of God for we hear Him and obey His word.
The Spirit of God usually guides us by two major instruments which are products of the Word. The word can be both the Logos(written word of God) or the Rhema(revealed word of God).
Psalm 119:105 Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.
The word of God is both a lamp guiding our specific and or a light guiding our general walk in life. The word of God functions as lamp to guide our individual steps as we walk through life and as light to light up our path that we may see afar of. We can easily pick signs of danger in front or even note certain signs on our way.
Light is very important to us as believers. It’s not the light that comes from this world but the light that is produced from the word of God. The light of this world is darkness, binding man in the corruption of sin and death employing the tools of fear, worry and anxiety but the light that comes from the word of God brings us into life and peace.
Psalm 91:4 He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt thou trust: his truth shall be thy shield and buckler.
The word of God is not just true but it is The Truth. Note that Jesus never said ‘thy word is true’, rather He said, ‘thy word is truth’. Nothing else is truth but the word of God. And the truth can guide us as shield and as buckler.
A shield is an instrument used to cover oneself from impending attack or danger. A shield is anything which protects or defends; used for defense, shelter or protection. Without the truth of the word of God, we will be defenceless and open. We will be susceptible to any attack, any wind of doctrine, any deception from the pit of hell. We need to know the truth that we may come into absolute freedom.
Also, the truth has capacity to be our buckler. A buckler is a kind of shield, of various shapes and sizes, worn on one of the arms (usually the left) for protecting the front of the body. It’s a small shield, used, not to cover the body, but to stop or parry blows.
The main shield covers long range attacks while the buckler covers close range attacks. That’s why we need the two operations of the Truth. No wonder Jesus prayed that prayer for me and you, saying ‘Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.’ And He said, “and you shall know the Truth, and the Truth shall make you free.” Do we really desire freedom? Then we must embrace God’s word and let the Holy Spirit guide us into “All Truth”.
Let the word of God be your light and your truth that it may be to you both a lamp and a light, and a shield and buckler. Give yourself to the word of God that it may keep you from failing and falling. God bless you. Have a blessed week.
