Believes’ Convention 2015
Day 3 – Morning Session (Tuesday, 18th August, 2015)
Speaker 1: Rev. E. O Ezekiel
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.
There was something Jesus came to do. Three things stand out in the above verse. Jesus talked of prayer and He opened it in Matthew 13:9, “After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name…”
What does ‘Our Father’ mean? It means that a new relationship with God which was different from what Israel had known was here. No one dared it to call God “Father” in the Old Testament. The father that man had then was the devil, but Jesus came to introduce a New Testament – which is His testimony.
“After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. 10 Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. 11 Give us this day our daily bread. 12 And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. 13 And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.”
Let us consider some very important points in these verses that the prayer of our Lord taught us.
A new location: “Our Father who art in heaven”. Because of the testimony (Jesus), it has become clear that our Father is in heaven; He does not dwell beneath (John 8:23).
A new authority: “Thy kingdom come”. There is a new authority upon us as we come into the kingdom, and we must be careful before we talk or do anything so that we don’t disgrace the kingdom.
A new obedience:
“Thine will be done”. This speaks of a new order of obedience! An order that has to be done just “as it is in heaven”. If you’re doing something different from what heaven is doing, you are an hypocrite because then there is no agreement. You need help to sight heaven in order to see how things are done.
In all sincerity, obeying God is not easy on the flesh. Sometimes, it requires us enduring pain. That is Obedience!!! Jesus, our Master obeyed unto death (Philippians 2:8). Though it was not convenient, nevertheless he obeyed.
“Give us this day” speaks of a new supply. The Luke version of the same prayer puts it this way: “Give us day by day our daily bread” (Luke 11:3). Some of us have our daily bread in a storehouse, but God’s intention is that it has to be fresh. That is the secret of an accurate walk with God – it has to be fresh.
“Forgive us our debts”. If you do not forgive your brother or sister, your forgiveness is not guaranteed. Our debts can only be forgiven “as we forgive our debtors”. You will be forgiven “AS” you forgive your debtors. This means if you are not forgiving, you cannot be forgiven. God will check the record of how you forgive so He can forgive you. Some people would have a grudge against someone in their heart and still kneel to call God, “Our Father”. Such is not the character of God, I wonder who the father of such persons are.
“Deliver us from evil”, Evil is everywhere around us, we need the Lord to deliver us. Do you know that you can pick evil from the streets? That is how easy it is.
“Thine is the kingdom”. There are many kingdoms on earth but none of them is the kingdom of Jesus. Do you know that we belong to a kingdom? Watch the manner of the kingdom and check yourself to see if you are aligned with the kingdom order. “For the kingdom is not meat and drink, but righteousness, peace and joy in the Holy Ghost” (Romans 14:17).
The music of the kingdom is God; Joy is the kingdom of God. JOY could be used as an acronym which means ‘Jesus Over You’. This means Jesus over your soul. This must be checked on a daily basis. A sure way to do this is if the soul is hearing the music of the kingdom? When you wake up in the morning, do you hear any music going on in your soul? If “Yes”, what kind of music is it? There are many kinds of music but the real essence of is Christ. Music can also be an acronym which means, ‘Me and U See In Christ’.
If there is no music of heaven in your heart, then it is time to run a check. If He is leading you in the path of righteousness, there will be music in your soul. I do not want the music of this world because not only do they not make any meaning, they will pollute your soul. When a soul is redeemed from that, the Holy Ghost will give you the music of heaven early in the morning.
“Thine kingdom come”. Are you really in the kingdom now or have you strayed? The soul is naturally lawless. This is why it always wants to stray from the kingdom. David said, “Why art thou cast down o my soul?” (Psalm 42:5). Many times, our souls are cast down and left wandering in the world.
“As the deer pants after the water brooks, so my soul pants after the living God”
Your level of life in God can be determined by your hunger level. If your hunger ceases, go to the hospital and meet the great physician. He is beside you, and He’s the healer of your soul. Always check your soul for diseases.
“For thine is the kingdom, and the power”. There’s only one power; Jesus said, “All power in heaven and earth is given to Me” (Matt. 28:18). Many people are boasting of having power which are not powers because they do not originate from Him.
An example is king Nebuchadnezzar in the Bible who was very powerful. One day, he looked around and saw one of the wonders in that age and boasted, “Is not this great Babylon, that I have built for the house of the kingdom by the might of my power, and for the honour of my majesty” (Daniel 4:30). In other words, he thought it was the power of his mind that set it up.
Daniel 4: 24 This is the interpretation, O king, and this is the decree of the most High, which is come upon my lord the king: 25 That they shall drive thee from men, …
He was driven! He who was the king among men, even the greatest king on the earth during that period was driven. Nebuchadnezzar never expected that. A preacher who is boasting of the abilities is completely ignorant of the fact that there could be conspiracy against him in the spirit like it happened to this king of Babylon. He ended up becoming an animal of the jungle (Daniel 4: 33). A proud man is unfortunate.
If you are a believer and you do not humble yourself, you will be cut from the supply of grace. We must hate pride because nothing debases like it. Whenever you are tempted with pride, a pit is around the corner for you. Oftentimes, ministers of God fall into this pit unknowingly because of the manifestation of God’s graces through them. We must know that God is no respecter of persons. Take this as a warning. You gain nothing when you are proud. God resists the proud (James 4:6). When God puts you to shame, for instance, who will save you? God can go that far to deliver a soul from pride and you can be sure of this- God will be glorified.
Nebuchadnezzar ate grass and at the end of the day, God who was rich in mercy had mercy on him. When he got out, he said: “All nations give God the glory” (Daniel 4:37). That’s the kingdom! That’s the glory!
God raised Jesus back to life with glory to demonstrate that before glory and honor comes humility. The redemption of the soul becomes easier when the believer wears the cloak of humility.
Ephesians 3: 20 Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us,
The emphasis is on the word, “Now”! Not tomorrow! God will do much more than what we ask or think because “abundance” is a language of the kingdom. No matter your request, God will do above that. Think of these things. Make your soul occupied with the thoughts of God.
The Holy Ghost is in you. Do not limit the unlimited One. He lives in you and knows you are incapacitated so He came in to do exceedingly above all. We have an advantage with praying in the Holy Ghost because it can lift us above our weaknesses in the place of prayer.
From this convention, you will go home with a new energy. When Jesus said: “Pray in this manner”, He has covered every way of your life and ministry.
No other power other than God receives the glory. I am a child of God on transit. You as believers need to know that you are not citizens of this place. Believers, let us yield to God and let Him use us to do the work.
Lord, Your word is true and is forever settled. The testimony is true and settled. This word became flesh. Oh man, thou art inexcusable (Romans 2:1).
