Speaker 3: Pastor Thompson
I sense a lot of sobriety in the house this morning and it’s necessary. As we see the day approaching, we ought to wear our garments of mourning; we ought to mourn.
I perceive that the Lord is visiting hearts in this season, but one thing that is important is that our hearts have to be true and pure. We need to strive to come into these states of heart where the heart is true and pure. We need to trust God to come into such states of heart because of the promise of entrance into what God wants us to enter into – a promise left of us that we must enter.
“And, behold, I come quickly; and my reward is with me, to give every man according as his work shall be”
The Lord said He is coming quickly: His coming is continuous and they are supposed to be in a quick manner. It’s continuous, but it is quick; this is supposed to be the manner of the coming of the Lord to us. This coming is not the second coming of the Lord (rapture), it’s the coming of the Lord to teach or instruct our hearts.
“Behold, I will send my messenger, and he shall prepare the way before me: and the LORD, whom ye seek, shall suddenly come to his temple, even the messenger of the covenant, whom ye delight in: behold, he shall come, saith the LORD of hosts”
We need to, and we must receive His coming: This coming is not the coming to the whole earth, it’s a coming for a reward; this coming is to reward.
“But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him”
This coming is for them that are diligently seeking him. His reward is with him, and this reward is for them that are seeking him. God also told Abraham: “I am your great and exceeding reward” (Gen. 15:1). This coming is not for all believers or all those that have given their lives to Jesus, it’s a particular kind of people who are diligently seeking for the coming of the Lord and because they desire His coming, He will come quickly to them. He won’t just come casually, He’ll come with a reward.
As a result of this, I need to take heed, lest, I fall short of receiving this great reward that the lord is coming with. He is coming to give to everyone according to his work (Rev. 22:12); His coming is majorly to effect a work. According to Hebrews chapter 3 and 4, they that must enter His rest must cease from their own work. This does not mean they are not going to work, they are only not going to do their own work!. This work is not the works of the flesh; rather, there’s a work His coming is supposed to generate in us.
His coming to us is in the place of revelation and light which are supposed to carry out a work within us and make us enter into His rest. By reason of His works, He gives entrance. It was the work Jesus did that gave Him a right to enter the Father’s rest; Jesus ceased from works – meaning He entered into rest.
These are what His comings commit to a heart and are supposed to be achieved in a heart. By His continuous and quick coming, He will come with a reward for every man according to their works. There is a work of God that should be done in us for us to be able to receive the reward of God.
The essence of the Lord’s coming is to reward a work that He is doing in us, but it is possible for us to slow down and not respond to God’s comings. It’s possible for us to abort His comings and as a result, we short down His works and then, His reward will not come. This is the reason for the warning in Heb. 4:11 (“Let us labour therefore to enter into that rest, lest any man fall after the same example of unbelief”) where we are warned against an evil heart of unbelief that will not make us receive our reward (rest).
The children of Israel offended the coming of the Lord to them everyday. The Lord was coming to them by various ways (pillar of cloud by day, pillar of fire by night, water from the rock e.t.c.), but they did not respond to these comings because of the issues of their hearts.
I remember Late Bishop Idahosa saying: “every time you sin, something dies in you” (the soul that sinneth shall die – Ezekiel 18:4). God took record of only 10 things that the children of Israel did in provoking His coming. These are not all they did, but God paid attention to these ten because they are issues that really affect the heart and keep reward away from a heart.
Moses was denied entrance because of a very simple obedience (speak to the rock). He was the meekest man on the earth, but he disobeyed commandment. He had been walking and had been processed for 40 good years and yet, he got to a point that he disobeyed and entrance into the promised land was denied him.
How many of us have even been under process and dealings of God for 40 years like Moses? He even went through the wilderness for another 40 years which makes it a total of 80 years of dealing, but heaven took record of his disobedience and that denied him entrance; it was just one disobedience! You do not know what heaven will take account of; if Moses had known!
I lived with some neighbours who really stretched me and I couldn’t obey the commandment of love your neighbour; I fell short of it. I was pushed to the wall a lot of times but then, God showed me mercy and grace. Now, I have a neighbour who is an Alhaji with 2 generators. The smallest of these generators sound like a great machine, but my own generator is very silent, it doesn’t make too much noise at all and I found grace not to disturb people with mine. But Alhaji’s generator was making me very very uncomfortable, but God had already commanded me not to have one single issue with my neighbours. I have been tempted many times to speak against it; but the Lord reminded me of His commandment. The Lord even went as far as making me repair one of the biggest generators for Alhaji to make it work. No matter how hard an instruction is, joy comes at the end of it.
We need to know how to apply this life; I believe this is what God really wants to do here if not, when offences come, we will not be able to stay away from it. We can be provoked; it was the provocation of Israel that led to the Lord being provoked. If we do not get our hearts together to begin to obey, offences will come and these offences will offend us to offend the Lord.
Apart from the issue of the generator, I have another reason to complain to Alhaji about something else, but the Lord commanded me not to talk about it.
“Blessed are they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city”
There is a difference between commandment and revelational knowledge; we need to be able to separate this. There is a difference between the word and the voice – The word is revelation knowledge, while the voice is commandment. The essence of the word being preached is so that you can get the key to knowledge and then ends in commandment – which is the key to entrance.
“Woe unto you, lawyers! for ye have taken away the key of knowledge: ye entered not in yourselves, and them that were entering in ye hindered”
Within knowledge is a key: When revelation knowledge is coming, there is a key. When ever Christ is painted, there is a key, and that key of knowledge is for an entrance. What voice communicates is way of life (and ye shall hear a voice from behind saying; walk in it). The key of life is commandment and it is gotten through knowledge.
“Blessed are they who do commandments; they will enter through the gates” (Rev. 22:14): Entrance into life is not through one gate, it’s through 12 gates. There is a gate being opened right now, but this does not mean that’s all because many more gates are going to be opened, but each of these gates have keys and these keys are commandments; so when revelational knowledge is coming to you, you should find the key (commandment) and enter the gate.
Vs 24: “Strive to enter in at the strait gate: for many, I say unto you, will seek to enter in, and shall not be able”
It’s not just about seeking to enter, you have to strive to enter through the straight gate. It’s possible to have eaten and drank revelations with a lot of presence of the Lord; eating and feasting before the Lord, but they thought it was their eating and drinking that will open the doors to them. The Lord told them: “I don’t know where you are”; they had not kept commandment; they have not fetched the keys of revelation knowledge. The access to entrance is the key (commandment) which is within revelation knowledge.
I see a lot of re-shuffling in the realm of the Spirit. Eleventh hour men are coming, and they are coming with great hunger; they are seeking the Lord with anything possible. If we are not careful, these ones will replace us. The fact that you eat and drank revelation is no guarantee of entrance. Please do not deceive yourself, carry out the commandment in every revelation (knowledge of God); you can be carried away and deceived in the excitement of eating, drinking, romancing and streaming in revelation. We need to take heed of how we hear, not just even what you hear. If we desire entrance, we need to take heed how we hear. Satan can use anyone to provoke you, be careful and take heed to your heart. I, a Pastor, can even provoke you, but please take heed to thine heart.
