Genesis 17:1 KJV
And when Abram was ninety years old and nine, the Lord appeared to Abram, and said unto him, I am the Almighty God; walk before me, and be thou perfect.
This is the instruction of the Lord unto Abraham even after he had gone his way to produce a child through the flesh. God wasn’t too concerned about his mistake in the past but was looking forward to a renewed commitment from His friend Abraham.
Abram had waited for the Lord for about 11 years, believing in the promise of God who had promised to give him a child. Yet at 86, it looked so bleak that his wife, Sarah advised him to help facilitate the promise by getting the child from a strange source, the bond woman.
Abram also yielded to his wife’s advice and straightway without enquiring from the Lord produced a child after the flesh which would later always lust/war against him that was born of the Spirit.
Abram seem to be comfortable with the proceed of his flesh, Ishmael as this was a confirmation that he was potent enough to produce an offspring. Abram had put into consideration the plea of His wife Sarai who had concluded that God purposely shut her womb from bearing him a child and that she wasn’t getting younger. She knew about the failing ability of her flesh but couldn’t embrace the ever increasing strength and ability of the Spirit, hence the limitation in believing.
Like Abram, many of us wait for God and somehow time seems to be running out, so, we resort to channeling our ways through the help of the flesh which is always at variance with the Spirit. The flesh is constantly at war with Spirit and so cannot allow for partnership.
But just like the case of the bond woman, a representation of the flesh and the son, being the proceed of the flesh, they must be sent out. We must mortify the deeds of the flesh.
Though Ishmael was also circumcised, he cannot be allowed to stay with Isaac. He.must be sent far away from Isaac. These two cannot live together. The flesh and its works war against the Spirit and his fruit, therefore the need to put off the old man and put on the New man.
On this note God speaks to us about renewing his contractual agreement with us by saying, “walk before me and be perfect.” If you do, then the Lord says, “I will fulfil my covenant that is between me and you which is to exceedingly multiply you.”
God wants to re-establish His promises upon you only if you would allow Him. Walk before Him and be perfect.
This is the word of the Lord to you this year. God bless you. Have a blessed week.
