Genesis 18:2-3 And he lift up his eyes and looked, and, lo, three men stood by him: and when he saw them , he ran to meet them from the tent door, and bowed himself toward the ground, And said, My Lord, if now I have found favour in thy sight, pass not away, I pray thee, from thy servant:
Hebrews 13:2 Be not forgetful to entertain strangers: for thereby some have entertained angels unawares.
In my meditation about the afore scriptures, I couldn’t stop asking myself how Abraham perceived the three men to be angels and not mere men. Abraham was just entertaining them but carefully and not deliberately referred to them as ‘My Lord’. He knew who he was addressing. My conclusion was that Abraham had developed sight to notice these men were not anything human.
Abraham was called into the faith walk. Faith develops an unusual sight in us. Faith takes us away from the normal natural sight into a spiritual sight. “(For we walk by faith, not by sight:)” 2 Corinthians 5:7.
A man of Faith is a man of Spiritual Sight. He has capacity to see beyond what the physical eyes can see. Sight is judgement. Sight is discernment. Sight is perception. All about life us about these three things; judgement, discernment and perception.
Perception relates to conscious understanding of life and the events of life. Our perceptive ability must not just be a product of our five senses but a product if divine sight called Faith. The just man does not live by the five senses or intellects, he simply lives by Faith. “While we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal.” 2 Cor.4:18.
Discernment relates to the ability to distinguish between things so as to come to right judgement. In life, we may see things the same way, we may even have the same perception of the phenomenal but we must have higher discernment. Abraham not only perceived them to be angels but also discerned the Lordship. Faith ought to build in us the ability to discern rightly and accurately without which we will be like every other persons.
“1 Corinthians 2:14 But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them , because they are spiritually discerned.”
Judgement relates to the ability to accurately choose between opinions or alternatives. Right judgement is the ability to choose what us right. Man was introduced to a life lower than natural called carnal life. That life does not have capacity to choose good. That life is tutored to always choose evil at the expense of good. So, the reason for the Faith life is to tutor man to learn to choose what is “that good and acceptable will of God.” “…For every good and perfect gift is from God.”
This is how it works. Faith gives us Spiritual sight. Spiritual Sight builds our perception. Perception helps us to accurately discern. And accurate discernment brings us into accurate Judgement.
Its time to live by Faith and not by sight. Faith is more real than what the eyes can see. Live by Faith. God bless you.
