And Leah conceived, and bare a son, and she called his name REUBEN: for she said, Surely the LORD hath looked upon my affliction; now therefore my husband will love me. Genesis 29:32

John 1:36 And looking upon Jesus as he walked, he saith, Behold the Lamb of God!

For the next few days, we will be considering the names of the sons of Leah born to Jacob. The names are full of divine inspiration but were wrongly interpreted and applied to herself and her condition. Somehow, we get divine revelations from God about our lives and situations and because of our circumstances and issues of life that seem critical and overwhelming, we wrongly apply them to our lives and many times, it seems like the word of God is failing. May I announce to you that the word of the Lord will never fail. Isa 40:8  The grass withereth, the flower fadeth: but the word of our God shall stand for ever.

The first son was named REUBEN meaning “Behold The Son.” This was a prophetic message to Leah not to focus on trying to get her husband’s love by giving birth to a son, but to behold the Son of God, the Only Begotten of the Father.

Rather, she hoped for her husband to love her because she has given birth to a son. She wrongfully applied the divine inspiration to her situation, wanting to take advantage of the gift of God.

Many of us are also like that. We find ourselves in dire need of love, wealth, success, achievements in life, relationship, job, and many things in life, and somehow, God gives us a word or divine direction, we then wrongly interpret or adapt it to our situation. And at the end, we do not get to seem better with every passing day, it therefore seems like the word of God over us has failed. Friends, that’s not true. The word of God is ever true. God is ever faithful and ever just. Even when you are not faithful, He is. When you are weak, He is strong.

Many times, God wants to get our focus, but we focus on other things. He wants us to behold Him, yet we choose to keep looking at our problems which seem insurmountable. Like the Israelites in the wilderness He says to us, don’t look at the pain of the fiery serpent, but look up to the brazen serpent raise. It’s not like the pain is not there, but don’t consider the pain, consider the solution which is the son.

Make no mistake today, God wants to teach you faith. Don’t let situations make you deny God, but rather let faith inspire you to trust and look up to God for all.

Yes, He has given you a son, but He wants you to behold The Son, not your son. He wants to give you success, but wants you to keep beholding The Son. He wants you to prosper in life, but can you continue to behold The Son? He says to you, Now Behold the Son.

Hebrew 12:2  Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.

It’s time to shift your gaze away from the problems and focus on The Son. It’s time to take your eyes off the things that seem like the solution to the problems and focus on The Son. The Son, Jesus is the solution. The Son, Christ Jesus is the only answer. Look to Him and live.

God bless you.
