Psalms 46:1 God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.
Hebrews 4:16 Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.
It’s usually reassuring to always know and note that God is our only source of help in times of need. He is our refuge and our strength.
We seem to always lose conciousness of our trust in God when we need help, perhaps because of a challenge that seem so big and somehow looks insurmountable, and we almost forget that nothing is bigger, difficult and too high for God to handle however complicated it or they may be.
God is our very help in trouble.
There is no help for us outside of God. And any help we try to get outside of God is likely to amount to nothingness. If God doesn’t help, then who will? Psalms127:1 Except the LORD build the house, they labour in vain that build it: except the LORD keep the city, the watchman waketh but in vain.
It doesn’t matter how many times we look up to God for help and it doesn’t matter how big the challenge is, always look up to Him who made the heavens and earth, He who doesn’t sleep nor slumber. He alone is capable of bringing you the very help you need.
Grace and Mercy.
One of the ways God helps His people is to provide them with Grace(divine empowerment) to carry on in life, and mercy(the peace of God as a result of God’s infallible love). Any life that lacks these two will always lack in life.
The problem has always been wrong focus. We usually focus on the wrong things as what we need as solutions to our challenges, when in the true sense, what we need is Grace and Mercy.
We think money is the solution, we pursue and acquire more money only to realise that the more money we have, the more problem we have. Money is never satisfying in life. It’s never an end itself but just a means to an end.
Many think academic qualifications is the solution to their problems. They spend all their lives studying and trying to acquire one degree or the other only to find such big emptiness in their lives. The more they want to know, the more they fail to know.
Many look on to having spouses as a panacea to life’s challenges. If I can only have one to take care of me, they say, but they end up more frustrated since every relationship they enter seem to add more to their problems.
Many acquire properties and hope that will solve their problems. Does it ever? No. Do they ever live happily ever? No. They even have unsettled life because they are always afraid of losing any of their acquisitions.
Some have resorted to addictions in various degrees just to take away what seem to be the problems, but rather, they end up in discomfort and disillusion. Some have taken to isolations and disassociations from people just to find solace all by themselves, yet they end up more frustrated with life.
There’s no rest outside of God. There’s no help without God. Help is rest. Rest is help. One that has found help has found rest. Therefore, the need for the grace and mercy of God, which are the only requirements for a life of rest.
Always remember, however big, small, gigantic, minute, enormous, trivial, magnanimous, fickle, insurmountable, little your challenges are, look up to God for help. Never look up to human or things around you. You’ll be disappointed over and over again if you do. There’s only One that cannot fail, He is God. Trust in Him always. He is your Refuge(peace) and strength(grace).
Philippians 4:6-7. Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
Note that scriptures didn’t say God will give you that your request, but what He’ll first do is to provide you with peace. It is the peace of God that is able to keep our hearts and mind. Other things in life can’t. They will even weary us to frustration. So, solely depend on God for your help.
Let the peace of God guide your heart all through life and you’ll never be disappointed in life. God bless you.
