3 John 2 Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in health, just as your soul prospers.

Many of us like to pray the prayer of prosperity, we love to quickly respond to any prayer whatsoever that relates to being prosperous in life. Yet, many have not sat down to ask what is the real meaning of prosperity? When last did we meditate on the word prosperity?

Prosperity simply means to end well. It also means to get to the final destination. Other derived meanings are to be successful(to end a project well most especially in a pre-determined desired manner). At other times, prosperity could be related to being wealthy, as this meaning was coined from the general desires of people to be wealthy.

When the Bible says prosper, we must get it in the right perspective. Three solid meanings could be deduced;

1. To end well(To end one’s life as originally pre-destined).
2. To become sufficient in all things in life.
3. To be in good health and be in good condition of life.

So, let me carefully rephrase the passage in 3 John 2: “I wish above all things that you may be sufficient in all things, and be in good health, even as you end well in life.” Does this make any sense to you? Yes, it should.

The desire of God for you and I is to end well in life, not to deviate from the original intention of God for you and I. God has an intention before He made man. He said, “Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion…” Gen.1:26. So a man that prospers is one that has been living in dominion as intended by God.

Also, the Lord wants us to be in perfect health. He wants us to enjoy a life without sickness and disease. So, in His plans and desire for us to be prosperous, He desires that we are perfectly healthy and in good condition in life.

Lastly, it’s the desire of God for all of us to be sufficient in life. This does not mean you have all the wealth of this world, no. It means you have all you need to live a holy and righteous life, a life wanting and lacking in nothing.

This is God’s desire for you and I, and as many as also desire this must ensure that He/she maintains a quality relationship with God. To be prosperous, you must have the complete cycle. You are not permitted to lack in one.

This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success. Joshua 1:8.

The Lord bless you. Be prosperous all the rest of your life.
