1 Timothy 4:12 Let no man despise thy youth; but be thou an example of the believers, in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity.
I used to wonder why God didn’t just take us away when we became born again. Obviously, He wants us to learn His ways and become a perfect man, attaining the full stature of Christ.
To become like Christ is to become a lord over all. To attain the full measure of the stature of Christ is to have limitless dominion over all issues of life. Hence, becoming a model for all to see and follow.
Therefore, be an example unto all men in all areas of life. Jesus says it like this, “Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.”
Matt.5:16. We must endeavour to shine our light in this wicked and dark times.
Be an example of a believer:
i. In word. Our words must show that we are not just like every other person, but must carry grace, show truth, and release Faith. We must be careful to speak words that will edify others. “Let your speech be alway with grace, seasoned with salt, that ye may know how ye ought to answer every man.” Col.4:6.
ii. In conversation. We must show that we are believers in the way we relate with one another. We must ensure that vulgar words must not come out from our mouth. We must be diligent at making every conversation reveal Christ in us. “Only let your conversation be as it becometh the gospel of Christ:….” Phil. 1:27.
iii. In Love(Charity). Do we show love enough? Does our love surpass the average man’s love? Do we go the extra mile to inconvenience ourselves in other to make the one in need convenient? It’s time to show the extra love and care. Although love is not just in giving, but love gives. Love is sacrificial and not just an investment. “Let love be without dissimulation.” Rom.12:9.
iv. In Spirit. Wow! How can we show that we are believers in Spirit? This has to do with our ability to connect with others not just in physical appearance, but also in the Spirit. Many of us do not know that we can connect each other in the Spirit. The real place of relationship is the spirit because ‘man is a spirit, he has a soul and he lives in a body.’ “Endeavouring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.” Eph. 4:3.
v. In Faith. A believer is one that has faith and can relate with God and others in faith. So, let faith spring up from all areas of our life. A believer should not be seen displaying or dispensing fear. Every fear that comes to us must meet with Faith. Our discussions with people must reveal faith. “The just shall live by faith.” Rom. 1:17.
vi. In Purity. To be pure means to be without stain. A believer must be one that is pure, not given to filthy life style. We must not be seen doing obscene, ridiculous and abominable things. We must maintain purity at all levels. “Flee also youthful lusts: but follow righteousness, faith, charity, peace, with them that call on the Lord out of a pure heart.” 2Tim.2:22.
Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things. Phil. 4:8
God bless you.
