Leviticus 22:3 Say unto them, Whosoever he be of all your seed among your generations, that goeth unto the holy things, which the children of Israel hallow unto the Lord, having his uncleanness upon him, that soul shall be cut off from my presence: I am the Lord.
In today’s devotional, comparison is made between Aaron’s priesthood and the Priesthood of Christ. Jesus is a one-time sacrifice for all and that sacrifice has given us victory and dominion over sin and death. Aaron and his descendants are to make sacrifices for sin on a daily, weekly, monthly and most importantly yearly and this sacrifice does not takes away the sins of the people, it only covers it. Even the priest is not immune from sin and death.
Let’s compare the priesthood of Aaron and that of Christ. I wanted to avoid this because of general consumption but I find a pressing desire to continue.
Aaron was a priest but his priesthood was imperfect and as such cannot offer a perfect sacrifice unto God. He has to cleanse himself first by making a sin offering for himself and his family before he can offer sacrifices on behalf of Israel. He is also under the dominion of sin. His calling and placement didn’t give him a super position above sin and death.
Yet, we see Jesus, who was made a priest, not after the priesthood of Aaron which was imperfect, whose background can be traced to man, but Jesus is a priest after the order of Melchisedec, one without earthly affiliation, who also has no beginning of days neither does he have the end of days.
Jesus is a priest the only priest that has power over sin and death. Nothing can offer us freedom and dominion over sin and death but Jesus. Jesus in the days of His flesh lived above sin. And He also conquered death not with in the spirit but even with the human body.
Therefore, only Jesus can offer us real dominion above sin and death. Religion can not. Rules and regulations can not. What religion does is to manage sin, try minimise your involvement, just make sure you are not overwhelmed by sin and when you commit sin, confess it.
Jesus Christ has not come for us to confess and keep confessing. No. He came to offer us a way out of sin permanently. He wants to make us totally free from Sin and Death. And so scripture says to us, “Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin,…. For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace.” Rom.6:11, 14.
Let Christ permeate your life today. Being a Christian is living like Christ. It’s more than a religion, it’s a life. Get Christ, get life eternal.
