Phillipians 3:2 Beware of dogs, beware of evil workers, beware of the concision.
It’s interesting to start on warning note this morning. BE AWARE.
Most times in life, we seem to care less about the presence of the evil ones. We go through life without taking detailed account of happenings around us, we do not consider the mistakes of yesteryears so as to avoid such pitfall.
The adversary seeks whom to devour. We are not to be threatened or frightened by the presence of such pitfalls or by the activities of the evil workers but the scripture admonished us to “Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:” 1 Pet. 5:8.
Many are careless and are not vigilant. Vigilance do not relate to suspicious or being overly fearful about a possible attack. It talks about being careful to maintain a position in the Spirit. To be vigilant talks about being readily alert to stand against the wiles on the devil.
And that’s why Paul also said, “Put on the whole armour of God…., and having done all TO STAND. STAND therefore….” Eph.6:11,13.
Three things the scripture wants us to be aware of: the dog, the evil workers and the concision. If God permits, we will look at these three in detail. But I must say to you, we do not fight FOR victory, no, we fight FROM victory. Jesus already gave us the victory. He’s won the battle. So, take your position in Victory. We are more than conqueror through Christ. Alleluia!
The Position of a victor is a position of strength, confidence and boldness. He is assured of victory. He has a superior mental capacity to win. He is not full of fear. Goes into the battle assured of victory.
But I also found out that the greatest strength of man can also turn out to be his greatest weakness. The weakness of Samson was not in the fact that he lost his hair, but first that he became careless because of his assumed assurance in his powers. No matter how strong you are, once you lose your duty of care and vigilance, you’ll be defeated in battle. The best way to prepare is to be careful to maintain the standard. Once the standard drops, then soon to come is your defeat.
Paul says this, “This is a faithful saying, and these things I will that thou affirm constantly, that they which have believed in God might be careful to maintain good works. These things are good and profitable unto men.” Titus 3:8
The way to sustained victory is to stay rooted in Christ, being watchful and vigilant in Christ. Don’t live carelessly. Don’t live in frivolity. Be careful.
Let Christ be your vigilance! God bless you.
