Genesis 3:7 And the eyes of them both were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together, and made themselves aprons.
It’s easter Friday popularly called Good friday. Today has so much significance to our lives. It’s the beginning of our restoration back to God. Man was separated from God and man has tried all and is still trying all to reach back to God and that’s the beginning of religion. Religion is a man-made-assumed spiritual way of reaching back to God, a way to please God.
Adam having discovered his death(separation from God), created a way of escape for himself. He made a covering for himself with fig leaves. Religion is a covering that gives one a sense of closeness to God. Ever since then, the fight has always been between religion and True worship to God.
Jesus made a very important statement that leaves us with a hope and assurance in Him thereby defeating the reliance on religion. He said, “I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.” John 14:6
I’m interested in the phrase “no man comes to the Father, but by ME”. It shows that man has tried all to reach out to God. And all these attempts have only led to more bondage. Religion is a bondage. It binds people in doctrines and principles designed and arranged by men.
To be saved is not the same as to be religious. To be saved is not to be a member of a church or associated to a ministry. To be saved is to be reconciled back to God through the death and resurrection of Jesus, the ONLY way to God.
“And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation;” 2 Cor.5:18
Today is a day to reflect on the finished work of Christ. Yet, people still depend on their works, rather than the finished work of Christ. People have so much faith in their ability to stay righteous than to trust in Christ who has made us the righteousness of God. People still do all to try to reach God, even when God has done all to reach us.
What is the work of God that we may do it, the Pharisees asked? Jesus replies by saying, “This is the work of God, that ye believe on him whom he hath sent.”
It’s time to drop religion and put on Christ. Christ is salvation. Happy easter.
