Phillipians 4:6 Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.
I particularly love this word ‘careful’ as use by the KJV. It made a whole lot of sense to me. The majority of our life’s challenges are cares of this world. Some are legitimate, while others aren’t. And so, man has learnt to live in the region of care. Scripture admonished us not to be “FULL OF CARES” by saying be ‘CARE FULL’ FOR NOTHING.
One of the things that can choke away the life of God in man is the cares of this world. Remember the parable of the sower, those whose seed fell among the thorns are likened unto people who received the word of God, developed it but are choked out by the cares(legitimate or not) of this world. Life is full of desires and ambitions, and these ambitions have a way of exacting so much pressure on us. They drag us out of peace into stress. We become earthly focussed and everything about us is in pursuit of meeting up with one target or the other. It then becomes easier to forsake a church service because of work, or because of study. It’s morally wise to let go of the fellowship with the saints at the expense of pursuing a successful career. The subtle response would always be ‘I can serve God anywhere, anytime’ and somehow, we lose fellowship, we fail to grow as expected of us.
God is calling us out of the cares of this world ‘cos He cares about us. We can decide to live pursuing the cares of this world at the expense of God’s care for us. Man fell into darkness and that also meant man needed to toil for survival but that was not the original intention of God. Jesus Christ restored our original placement with God and so, He’s calling us back to our eternal rest as it ought to be in God. For there remains a rest for the people of God, but not all love rest. Many love labour. Many love to toil. Jesus says to us, ” Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.” Matthew 11:28-30. If only we can live in the REST of God, we will cease from all our toiling. The priest is not expected to work, we’ve been made Priest and Kings. But it sounds foolish because we’ve taught to always live in the realm of work. Now by work, I do not mean for us to be lazy, doing nothing and becoming busy bodies, I mean our lives do not depend on work but on God. Our provisions are not dependent on what we get from work or toiling but that which the Lord provides. If only we can be God dependent, we will not be in a crazy rush for earthly success. God cares and that’s true. Cares choke, choke Cares.
God is calling us into a life of total dependence, where our lives are not subject to the cares of this world but to the provisions of God. Jesus made it simpler, yet impossible for the carnal thinking man(many of us are controlled by carnal thoughts). He said, “Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed? (For after all these things do the Gentiles seek:) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things.” Matthew 6:31-32. We can preach it, yet most of us have refused to live in it.
I call on us today to live not being full of cares, but to be full of God. Like we say in Kingdom People Network, REST IN PEACE. God is the only guarantee for peace, so rest in God; for cares can never guarantee peace. God bless you.
