John 17:17 Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.
To be sanctified means to be separated through a uniquely different sign, process or means. It also means to cause a clear distinction between two things/objects. The word of God has capacity to sanctify us and make us completely different from the world. This world is full of corruption, fornication/adultery, Idolatary, and all other sinful vices but we ought to be uniquely separated from all these sinful natures and acts. You would need be cleansed you by the word, made alive (quickened) by the word, and empowered by the word. You would also need to be tutored in faith through the word of God taking away the life that is subject to fear. The world stirs up fear binding one into death, the WORD stirs up Faith bringing one into eternal life. “So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God”. Romams 10:17. The Lord Himself will therefore be your Shield, covering you from every attack and manipulation of the devil. By attack, I mean the power of corruption will not catch up with you. Then, the Lord will be your exceeding reward indeed. The Psalmist rendered it like this, “The Lord is the portion of mine inheritance and of my cup: thou maintainest my lot.” Ps 16:5.
“Thou art my portion, O Lord: I have said that I would keep thy words.” Ps. 119:57.
You see, without keeping the word, the Lord will not be your inheritance.
So, seeing that we must partake in all these, it is important that the truth of the word of God santify us and make us fit for the Lord’s use. To be sanctified also means to be set apart and declared holy. We cannot be declared holy except the word of God does so. The word of God will take us through the process of cleansing again and again, making us alive again and again, empower us for daily living, faith being ministered to us on a daily basis, the Lord shielding us from evil. These are the processes of sanctification and separation from the world.
Nothing in this world is true, it’s all lies and deception of the devil. The only true one is God and His word is Truth. Therefore, to live in truth is to live by the word. To become holy is to subject yourself to the tutoring of the word. Live your life daily by the word, take instructions from the word, subject yourself to the word. Feed on the word day and night. And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. 1 Thes.5:23. Amen.
