“For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.” (Romans 8:14).
God has called us to divine sonship. It’s not just an exoteric believism nor is it a way to cajole man to falsely believe in God. It is a divine call to a Father-Son relationship between God and man. It’s a relationship built by God through the help of the Holy Spirit in a willing child. It all starts from when we give our life to Him to serve and worship Him all day long. So, in the course of service to Him, He calls us to a better life, a relationship based on trust and love. “For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren.” (Romans 8:29).
When we become born again, we are likened unto a ‘new born baby’. We therefore need to grow by desiring the sincere milk of God’s word. All we need is to keep feeding on the word and growth comes. Funnily, God desires more than growth for all His children, anything, anybody can grow. He wants us to become matured. The same tale goes for the difference between a tree in the garden and the one in the forest. Maturity is sonship. Therefore, there is a need to become a son. A son is one who has become matured in the faith. They are willing to take the risk of following the Holy Spirit wheresoever He leads them. They will not be a people who decide what they want with their faith, but by faith, the Holy Spirit decides for them.
Faith is not all about praying and getting what you want all the time. Only Children get almost all they want. Matured sons learn to endure. Faith is living after the order of Godly desires. Faith is living like God wants you to live.
“The wind bloweth where it listeth, and thou hearest the sound thereof, but canst not tell whence it cometh, and whither it goeth: so is every one that is born of the Spirit. ” (John 3:8).
A man of the spirit is one who has learnt to follow God where He leads him to God, not doubting.
It is a relationship where we can trust God for all. It takes being sensitive to the dictates of the Spirit, following the leadings of the spirit.
Let me also say here, it is as simple as obeying God no matter how little the instruction seem. Sonship is becoming matured in the Faith. God has not called us to churchy living, He’s called us to a relationship. Build it.
