“And Mahlon and Chilion died also both of them; and the woman was left of her two sons and her husband.” (Ruth 1:5).
“For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.” (Romans 8:6).

Good morning friend,
It’s important we move a step further in our study of the book of Ruth. Now, I need to tell you that all the stories in the Old Testament have so much spiritual dimensions to them, and we need to understand them in the light of the New Testament epistles.

To be carnally minded means to become married to, driven &controlled by, sold out to carnality. Carnality is a life that loves the ‘world &it’s systems’ more than God. A life not subject to the leading of the spirit. A life of ‘self’.
Such life is an enemy of God and the penalty for such living is death since it has been separated from God. Death means separation from the source. The source of life is God, and He alone is the sustainance of life. We must not be separated from Him. A fish separated from water dies naturally. A plant separated from the soil dries and dies. It doesn’t matter how many more time spent. It dies eventually.
Although, after this family separated themselves from God’s divine covering, they appeared to have lived a while, but death was iminent. Mahlon and Chilion died after ten years of being married to strange women, afterwhich their father had died.
This then is the gospel, God is set to redeem man from his lost and carnal state by giving His Only Begotten Son that whosoever believes should not ‘perish’ but have ‘everlasting life’. To perish means to continue in the process of death/decay.
Praise be to God who has given us life as a panacea to death. To have life means to be connected to our source, God. Don’t lose that connection. Keep the Oneness with God. Become spiritually minded(a state where your mind is subjected to spiritual control), that you may receive abundance of life and peace.
God bless and preserve you in life.
